All the best to you guys!

Our DEAR, DEAR juniors:

SYF is an unforgettable experience isn't it? IT IS! because look at us now... we are more bonded than ever ^^! We improved through all those practices together!

More importantly, look at all those DECLARATIONS OF LOVE from your seniors (us!!!!)

It doesn't come with the condition that you all must meet up to or exceed our expectations, and it doesn't matter who you are, what you do. As long as you are part of DHSSB, WE LOVE YOU!

It's alright to feel disappointed, but never give up. Yes we are an awesome band, but what really matters is our UNIQUE DHSSB spirit!

The spirit that loves Mrs Wong, Mr Ng and all our teachers-in-charge,
The spirit that loves and enjoys the music we play together,
The spirit that makes even the shyest person cheer loudly whenever we hear the name DHSSB
The spirit that motivates us even though things get tiring

There's so much in band to look forward to... and seriously, we don't revolve around SYF!
Cause we ROCK... way too much (:

CHEERIOS, guys! and... SMILE! Cause WE LOVE YOU (is that not enough a reason?!?!?!?!)

军乐队一家人!

All the best to you guys!

Dear juniors,

I don't know if you read this blog anymore - if you do, please spread this.

We went through this two years ago; we know how awful it feels right now. But it will pass, and you'll see the rainbows after the rain. Why are you in SYF? Why did you cry yesterday?

Because you love this band. Because you care for this band, and you want the very best for this band. Because you want other people to see this band the way you see it. Let me tell you this now: The measure of a band is not what it gets for SYF. The measure of a band is how much people enjoy your music; The measure of a band is how much you, the player, enjoy playing in it; The measure of a band is how far you've come and how much heart you put into your playing. And to us, you are the best band, ever.

Don't cry, and don't say sorry. Don't ever, ever apologize to us, because you did your very best and you played wonderfully, and everyone who matters knows that. We don't care what you got. We care that because of one word, because of a little, stupid label, you can forget all the hard work that you've put in the past two years. Above all always remember that feeling of playing good music. Do you remember that Thursday's rehearsal and how well you played? That is the most important thing.

We are proud of you, and we love you. You have come so far; be proud of yourself. Be proud that everyone in this band cared enough to put in their very best and worked together to be who you are today. Now, you don't just belong to the band; because of all the work and tears you've put in, this band belongs to you as well. What is a title? Nothing. What is all that you've gotten from all of this hard work and all the feelings put in? Friendship, satisfaction, a better band: All worth much more than judgment from anyone else.

Remember: This is our band, and as far as anyone who matters is concerned, DHSSB has won the war. No regrets, because you have every right to play with your heads held high.

Love, Si Hui.

All the best to you guys!

Mm, I told Nicholas I rather write letters than post, but I suddenly felt like it, so. :)

Three more days to go! From everything we've been hearing this two weeks you guys sound good: You've really improved so, so much and we are extremely proud of all of you :) I don't have much advice or reminders left now, just this: On Friday, I know you'll all play your 101% on-stage; remember to enjoy yourself, because when you really live the music you'll blow everyone else away. No matter the outcome, no matter how you perform on Friday, remember this: We love you, and we are proud of you: To us you are the best, because you guys have really put in so much effort and we can tell, that you've done your very very best. And that is enough, that is more than enough, because that is what really counts. So go out there and play with your hearts; we are proud of you. Now, go make yourselves proud :) Good luck, and all the best!

All the best to you guys!

Dear Isabel!

My favourite harp junior! xD

This post is dedicated to you!

I am so glad you have improved SOO MUCH over these few months, even now Mr Ng praises you! I was actually quite worried about you at first, but now, all I have to say is JIAYOU! -patpat-

All the best for SYF yeah? Don't get clammy fingers like me :) Do some warm ups before the whole thing! Let me now... give you handy tips for that day!

1. Don't endanger your fingers starting from now! Avoid playing erm. well, anything that can twist/hurt/break your fingers! Like... well, bowling! ^^ Or random pepsi cola games ...
2. Cut your fingernails!
3. Bring along the whole box of strings + scissors + tuner on that day
4. Get guys to help you take care/carry the harp! But must direct and order them around! ^^ Don't let the harp out of your sight on that day (: Protect it with your life ^^ cos we love it too much, yeah ?<3
5. Tune the strings before you go on stage! (look out for strings we recently fixed)
6. Go in with a smile and your head lifted high!
7. Remember to bring the harp chair! xD HAHAHAHAHA

YAY! See! You are all prepared now! Remind me to give you a hug... or more than a hug ^^ sometime later xD You'll be in my heart ~~~~~~

Dazzle them with your amazing harp-playing abilities!!

Play as if you don't need your fingers anymore haha...(thats what I do for concerts xD) Ok sorry, this is not very organised... but I LOVE YOU! MUAX!

ALL THE BEST MY DEAR! <3

All the best to you guys!

Hey juniors!

You all have been working hard for the past few months and I know its been hard for you all. The most stressful period is here as syf draws near. I want you all to know that it doesn't matter whether you play well in the band aiming to do well in the syf, for Mr Ng, Mrs Wong and the teachers, or for yourself, just love and enjoy music!
CHEERS YOU ON @ 8:17 PM

All the best to you guys!

Everyone starts with 'SYF is just around the corner', or something similar, so I'll take a different approach.

Here's how it is: No matter what we do, no matter what happens during this period, no matter if we like it or not, life goes on. Ultimately we have to get to our destination, because we cannot choose to stay put in history and refuse to move forward in time. Here, our destination is the SYF. The third of April will arrive sooner or later; rather than mull in misery, why not make the most out of things? Rather than struggle in discontentment over certain intricate issues, why not realise that there are other things worth our attention? And, rather than shudder at the thought of the SYF nearing, why not think about things that will happen after that?

I know that we are tiding through a very difficult period now; there are so many factors contributing to much confusion and uncertainty that it is hard to realise that ultimately we are lacking just one simple thing: Will. We have so many concerns, do not know how to solve them because of sheer complexity, so we give up altogether because things have become overly complex. We have lost the joy; we have lost the motivation; we have lost whatever that we can find to look back upon.

But is it true?

Have we lost it, or is it just that we do not know how to get them back / are unwilling to search for them?

Amongst these complicated issues, attempting to relive the past would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. It is hard to put aside differences or ignore any form of discouragement just to get a tinge of optimism. I know - it is challenging. But here is where Will steps in. Here is where Will has the power to overcome pessimism. Here is where growing up does not mean losing innocence; it only means that innocence is interpreted in a different way.

It is inevitable that life gives us a lot of setbacks, be it in relationships or words uttered. Instead of being bothered by these setbacks, put them aside. When it seems difficult to do so, find Will. Trust me, it is possible. Think of all the things that made you happy when you were a child; those peek-a-boo games that Dad and Mum used to play with you - oh that joy and laughter, because of the little things that amuse you. No, you weren't bothered that the weather was burning hot; only Dad and Mum mattered. Because Dad and Mum brought you joy and laughter. So you'd always want to experience peek-a-boo with Dad and Mum; who cares about the hot weather! Even if you cared, you couldn't do anything about it anyway. The problem was too huge for you to handle - you had to counter global warming, which would be far too difficult for you. So, you just left it aside. And you were happy.

Remember the day when you picked up your instrument for the first time and thought, "What on earth is a -insert instrument here-?" And you blew into / bowed / hit it, and voila! It produced sound. It didn't matter that the sound was horrendous. What mattered was - you produced sound!

Remember the day when you played through a scale without breaking down for the first time? It didn't matter that every note was out of tune. What mattered was - you had made improvement!

And remember the day when you first played with the band? All those blending harmonies and perfectly-fitting melodies - it was amazing that such different material, when put together, was in perfect harmony. It didn't matter that everyone made mistakes. What mattered was - everyone tried their best.

And that's that. Clichéd as it seems, remember the good times and leave aside those scars. It's not difficult to grab hold of them again. I believe that everyone is in conflict of some form, but here I wish to remind everyone that, everyone is in conflict of some form. When you feel alone in a situation, remember that, you are not alone in being alone in a situation. Leave your worries aside, they will come to some form of conclusion on their own. Focus on what would be meaningful to you; trust me, you'd be able to get it if you have the will to.

If attempting to relive these wonderful memories would be equivalent to searching for a needle in a haystack, then dump the haystack and get the needle. Leave behind the past, for only by doing that would you allow room for the future. And to do that, remember that nothing is impossible when you have the will.

Here's how it is: No matter what we do, no matter what happens during this period, no matter if we like it or not, life goes on. Rather than shudder at the thought of the SYF nearing, why not think about things that will happen after that? Maybe after SYF I'll realise that, hey, I hear music again.

And this time, it's not just music.
It's joy I'd never thought I'd experience.

All the best to you guys!

hey band..!

yea we are left with less than a month for the syf... and most important now is to get motivated and really enjoy the music that you play... only when you enjoy the music then you will feel happy and feel good, and continue doing your best...

during this period, you will either feel discouraged, or even lose your motivation to move on and to play well in band due to the tiredness and all the early and late commitments you have to put in... (morning practices, or aftnn SPs)... i have some tips for all of you here, to gain back your lost motivation, and not to feel discouraged..!

look at the progress, not the gaps...

see how far you have improved, and not just the one-time bad playing...

dont get burned...
rmr to take adequate rests even if you are practicing hard for SYF..!

dream the dream again...
go back to the times when playing in the band was fulfilling and you want to keep on playing your instrument... recall them as vividly as possible and FEEL it.. then you will want to WORK for it..

SYF is one thing... but when you truly enjoy your music, the music comes alive... and the feelings will pour naturally..

jiayou!! and we seniors are always behind you.. when u are not doing well, we will not be feeling happy too.. we are always there for you...

yep...

GO CLARINETS~!

sorry if i were really harsh on you guys... ><

All the best to you guys!

HEY PEOPLE! haha. I know the going's really tough now! But...FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT ON! Fight like a teenage mutant ninja turtle! Fight like power rangers, or whatever...but the point is...FIGHT ON! =D

There's definitely time left! And use this time really really well to catchup! If you have any thoughts of giving up or something...DON'T! There's SO MUCH you can do in this time, and it will definitely bring you up alot more!

Don't be deterred by the factors around you! Just give your 150% best effort! Fight for it! And...do your best for SYF! Just..leave no room for regret! Leave SCH knowing that you have already tried your best :)

Meanwhile...love band! Enjoy band cause it's music making and the people in band that makes your life enjoyable ;) definitely have to concentrate on the pieces now. But don't forget to laugh, talk, interact after band or sth still! That's what CCAs are for! You don't just gain a skill. You get to know more people, and get more friends! =D

To trumpets, COME ON MANNN PPPL! your fighting spirit and confidence is the obstacle! just...remove that barrier and MOOOVVEEE ON! You'll can do it one! :D You haven really seen what you can do yet, cause you haven believed in yourselves yet! And for those you have already seen the light, GAMBATE! and AIM FOR THE GOLLLDD! all the best! (we will try to help you one!)

All the best to you guys!

Hey Hey Junior High!

SYF's just around the corner for both junior high and senior high so let's work hard together to bring glory to our school, just like how our first batch of year6s did in their A level results!

Although there's limited time left, please do not give up! When everyone puts in their best and want that gold badly, i'm sure we'll get it (: For that to happen, we'll need everyone's cooperation! Unleash that fighting spirit within yourselves and you'll have no regrets! Your seniors will be cheering you on too for we are 军乐队,一家人!

To my dear flutes & piccolo, don't be discouraged by the problems that you are facing, mainly intonation. The solution lies in practicing together as a section, but before that do practice individually also! When everyone does that, you'll sound angelic. hehe. JIAYOU!
